Just In: Veteran Pakistani batter Salman Butt reacts to Ricky Pointing’s statement about Indian young batsman Suryakumar Jadav. The former skipper stated Kumar has just kicked off his international cricketing career, and it’s inappropriate to compare him with the legendary AB de Villiers.
Speaking on his Youtube Channel, Butt said that Yadav is a skillful batter, who has displayed impressive cricket so far, but his performance in major events is yet to be witnessed, so Rickey Pointing should wait for that for some time.
A few days back, the Former Australian Skipper shared his opinion regarding Indian batter Suryakumar. He compared the young batsman to the former Proteas captain, saying Suryakumar is a 360-degree batsman who clones de Villiers in his prime.
While backing up de Villiers legacy, Butt said, “The type of cricket AB de Villiers played, I feel no one even in recent history has ever played like him. With the kind of impact he had, opposition teams knew that if you cannot dismiss him, you cannot win the match.”
“There is Kane Williamson, Joe Root, and Virat Kohli as well, who have been Top Class Batters and have played incredible innings. Rohit Sharma has scored 250 runs in ODIs. So, maybe Pointing had a jet lag”, further added by Former Pakistani Skipper.
Suryakumar, who entered Team India as an experimental batter, panned out as a successful young opener. He has scored 340 runs in 13 ODIs and 672 runs in 23 T20Is so far while averaging almost 40 in white-ball cricket.
His late innings against West Indies helped him advance to 2nd spot on the ICC T20 Batters Ranking. The talented batter is now a few points behind Baber Azam for the top spot on the list. His instant ranking also raised questions on ICC’s Batters Ranking Mechanism.
