Hello! Welcome to the first evening of the Pakistan Super League season 8. The superstars have landed in Multan, the glitzy opening ceremony is underway, and in about 60 minutes we’ll have live action. It’s reigning champions Lahore Qalandars taking on Multan Sultans to kickstart the tournament for us. 30 matches will be played before the Qualifier, two Eliminators, and then the final on March 19th at Gaddafi Stadium.
The ceremony started after a half-hour delay with singer Aima Baig singing the national anthem. Asim Azhar, Faris Shafi, and Shae Gill are poised to take the stage by storm.
Najam Sethi, who is the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s managing committee shared the history of the tournament while addressing the opening ceremony. Under his chairmanship, PSL finally got off the ground in 2016 and has gone from strength to strength over the years.
“Next year we will go to Quetta and Peshawar,” he said.
Pakistan’s in-form wicket-keeper batter Mohammad Rizwan will be marshalling the troops for Multan and he will have the able support of Australia’s Tim David, Rilee Rossouw, David Miller and West Indies seasoned campaigner Kieran Pollard.
Lahore Qalandars picked Fakhar Zaman as their platinum pick while Quetta Gladiators roped in Sri Lanka’s all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga – who has been in scintillating form.
David Miller joined Multan Sultans – he was a part of Peshawar Zalmi previously. The other big signing was Matthew Wade who will be representing Karahi Kings this season. It will be an interesting match-up between Shaheen Afridi and Wade after the Australian wicket-keeper batter went berserk against him in the 2021 World Cup semifinal.
One of the most explosive opening batters in T20 cricket Alex Hales went back to Islamabad United. Imran Tahir was picked as the platinum player by Karachi Kings and James Vince is also part of the Kings’ setup. Zimbabwean all-rounder Sikandar Raza has joined the defending champions Lahore Qalandars.
Islamabad United picked the mystery spinner, Abrar Ahmed. He burst onto the scenes with an incredible performance in the second Test against England in Multan. Peshawar Zalmi drafted Saim Ayub; he has got an array of shots in his arsenal and no area on the ground is inaccessible to him. In 19 T20s, he averages 27.89 and strikes at 142.09.
The canny bowler Rumman Raees struggled through a gruelling injury and was out of action for more than a year but he has recovered now and will be part of Islamabad United this season. Lahore Qalandars have got Shawaiz Irfan in their side. The young wicket-keeper batter hogged the limelight during the first edition of the Pakistan Junior League and took a breathtaking catch that got the attention of Rashid Latif.
Hasan Nawaz, who had a fantastic KPL, was picked by Islamabad United. He hails from the same town as Shadab Khan and he times the ball sweetly. Peshawar Zalmi’s first pick in the draft was Jimmy Neesham while England’s Adil Rashid was picked by Multan Sultans. New Zealand batter Martin Guptill went to Quetta Gladiators and Tabraiz Shamsi joined Karachi Kings’ squad.
Afeef: “I’m looking forward to seeing if Multan Sultans will play all four of Rossouw, Miller, Pollard and Tim David. That is one heck of a T20 middle order. Although Rossouw might not play today as he just played the SA20 final yesterday.”

A notable omission from Lahore Qalandars is the magician Rashid Khan who is unavailable for the first three matches.
Multans leads the head-to-head record after getting the better of Lahore on seven occasions while Qalandars have been fiercely competitive in their clashes, emerging victorious in six matches.
Ather Aziz: “Excited to see the match up of Shaheen VS Fakhar today, it may very well determine the outcome of this match !”
Wasif : “Hello all. Welcome to all oversee players. Good evening to all who lives in Pakistan and outside of Pakistan. I hope Rizwan will lead the team from the top with high score.”
Imraan: “EspnCricinfo please talk to the PSL management about the punctuality of the match as every year they do the same thing. Please start on time.” Okay, I’ll pass on the word
Mahtab tabish: “Existing to see shaeen afridi vs Muhammad rizwan 1st over” Can’t wait!
Muzaffar: “Was thoroughly impressed with Akeal Hosein’s performances with both bat and ball after watching him in the Big Bash earlier this year… with much more assistance in the pitches, going to go early and say he is going to have a standout PSL!!!”
We’re not too far away from the toss. What about the pitch, you may ask. The pitch has been conducive for batting. The average first-innings total is 169 so you can expect a run-fest tonight.
Multan Sultans Playing XI: Muhammad Rizwan, Shan Masood, Usman Khan, David Miller, Kieron Pollard, Khushdil Shah, Akeal Hossain, Usama Mir, Sameen Gul, Shahnawaz Dahani, Ihsanullah
Lahore Qalandars Playing XI: Fakhar Zaman, Tahir Baig, Shai Hope, Kamran Ghulam, Hussain Talat, Sikandar Raza, Liam Dawson, David Wiese, Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, Zaman Khan
Ahsan Ibrahim: “Usman khan will be the key for multans. He has performed in each and every league which he played during 2022-23.”
Shujaat: “Hello from Toronto. Best thing about PSL is that most matches will be held during my office timings which means I can watch them freely.” Well, then you got to multitask
Sameer: “Hello people who love cricket. Will be thrilling to see so evenly poised teams this time around. Siding with Multan today and rest of the tournament too because of the sensible draft picks! Akeal Hossein is the go-to guy”
There was an issue with the floodlight that caused a delay but now they are back on and we should get underway shortly. Remember, patience is a virtue.
Kamran: “With Miller and Pollard backed by an able Khushdil, that’s a powerhouse middle order for Multan. You won’t expect their openers to make the best use of Powerplay, but Rizwan and Shan can build a platform before letting that heavy-duty middle order lose.”
Mansoor : “Hi everyone.. Watching it from the capital of Pakistan.. Supporting islamabad united and peshawar zalmi.. Let the better team wins today” Enjoy the game!
Riasat Nadeem s: “Hello! Every one. I am following this match from jhang punjab Pakistan. My favourite team is Karachi kings only due to “Muhammad Amir” With change in PCB management, he will be looking to prove a point

Shahzaib: “Really excited for this match! Had to set a timer yesterday, before sleeping and I’ve had to disturb my entire schedule to watch this match. Hopefully we get to see a wonderful and thrilling match. Lahore Qalandars all they way! best of luck boys!” Excitement is palpable

Hello and good evening all. Welcome for the 3nd game of PSL 8. It was a nail-biter last night as Lahore Qalandars won by 1 run against Multan Sultans and expecting another cracking game today as Peshawar Zalmi take on Karachi Kings at National Stadium, Karachi.
This is the first game for both the teams of new season. Both the teams want solid start of this new season. The last season of PSL was very disappointing for Kings as they finished at the bottom of the table and Zalmi lost in the 1st eliminator against United.
Babar Azam will lead Zalmi as he moved from Kings to Zalmi. Imad Wasim will be the captain of Kings. If we look at the last five matches between them, Zalmi won four and lost one.
Pitch Report: It looks one side of the pitch is dry and dusty and other side of the pitch is green. The ball will turn and grip at one end and it skids on at the other end so bit contrasting according to pitch experts, lets see how it will play.
Toss: Imad Wasim wins the toss for Karachi Kings and opts bowl.
Karachi Kings: Sharjeel Khan, +Matthew Wade, Haider Ali, Shoaib Malik, Qasim Akram, Ben Cutting, *Imad Wasim, Andrew Tye, Imran Tahir, Mir Hamza, Mohammad Amir.
Peshawar Zalmi: *Babar Azam, +Mohammad Haris, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Saim Ayub, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, James Neesham, Shakib Al Hasan, Wahab Riaz, Khurram Shahzad, Sufiyan Muqeem, Salman Irshad.
Umpires are coming to the middle. Babar Azam and Mohammad Haris are the openers for Zalmi. Mohammad Amir will bowl to Haris.
