Where there is Pakistan cricket, there is drama. In the latest episode, PCB were reportedly set to replace Jason Gillespie with Aaqib Javed across formats, only for the board to then clarify that the former Aussie quick will remain in charge for the two-match Test series in South Africa. Gillespie himself took on the white-ball role on an interim basis after Gary Kirsten quit without overseeing a single match.
6.10pm After Australia could muster only 147 in the second T20I, Spencer Johnson blew Pakistan away with a career-best 5 for 26. While he may get relegated to the bench once Australia’s Big Three – Starc, Cummins and Hazlewood – are available again, his performances are definitely helping him push his case for a full-time role in the T20I setup.
Moeed: “Pakistan have made a decision no one would have thought and haven’t seen for like past 10 years, the captain is RESTING!! Bold decision to give chances to the youngsters, hopefully Haseebullah and Jahandad make this count..”
6.01pm Well, we already have some team news for you. Mohammad Rizwan is presumably resting, with Sahibzada Farhan set to go up the order to open alongside Babar Azam. Haseebullah Khan, who batted low down the order in the first game before being dropped for the second, returns to the team and is penned to bat at one-drop and keep wickets. And left-arm seam-bowling allrounder Jahandad Khan is all set to make his international debut, coming in for Naseem Shah. Salman Agha will lead in Rizwan’s absence.
6pm In Brisbane, Australia blew Pakistan away in a seven-over shootout. In Sydney, they held their nerves in a low-scoring thriller. That has reduced today’s game in Hobart to a dead rubber, at least as far as the series result is concerned. However, both teams have plenty to play for. Pakistan will look to seal a consolation win and avoid a whitewash after a historic come-from-behind ODI series win in Australia.
And for a lot of Australian players, it is another chance to make life tougher for the selectors when a host of their first-choice players return to the fold. So we are in for a potentially cracking contest. Hello and welcome to ESPNcricinfo’s live coverage of the third T20I.
