Sweden Football Coach (Manager) – Jon Dahl Tomasson
As of June 2025, the head coach of the Sweden men’s national football team is Jon Dahl Tomasson. Appointed in early 2024, Tomasson is the first foreign manager in the history of the Swedish national team. His contract encompasses the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign, with an automatic extension clause should Sweden advance to the finals in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
Tomasson, a former Danish international striker with 112 caps and 52 goals, enjoyed a distinguished playing career with clubs such as Feyenoord and AC Milan. Transitioning into management, he has held coaching positions at Excelsior, Roda JC, Malmö FF, and Blackburn Rovers. Notably, he led Malmö FF to consecutive Swedish championships in 2020 and 2021.
Under Tomasson’s leadership, Sweden has adopted a more modern, possession-based, and attacking style of play, marking a departure from the nation’s traditional direct approach. To facilitate this transition and bridge cultural gaps, he appointed former Swedish international Sebastian Larsson as his assistant coach.
Tomasson’s tenure commenced with friendly matches against Portugal and Albania in March 2024. Since then, he has been working to rejuvenate the team and guide Sweden back to major international tournaments.
